Understanding Craft Classifications in FieldReporter

Overview

This article explains how craft classifications are used in FieldReporter and why selecting the correct classification is important. Craft classifications identify the type of work being performed and are recorded with each sign-in entry. Craft classifications support workforce tracking, prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll validation, and labor compliance reporting. Selecting the correct classification helps ensure work activity is recorded accurately and reduces payroll and compliance discrepancies.

Before You Begin

Before selecting a craft classification:

  • The employee must be assigned to the project.
  • The employee must have at least one craft classification assigned to their profile.
  • FieldReporter must be enabled for the project.
  • Employees should know the type of work they will be performing before signing in.

Steps

Selecting a Craft Classification

During the sign-in process, employees are prompted to select a craft classification before completing sign-in. When selecting a classification:

  1. Review available classifications before completing sign-in.
  2. Select the classification that best matches the work being performed.
  3. Complete the remaining sign-in steps.

The selected classification is recorded with the employee's Daily Sign-In Log (DSL) entry.

Multiple Classifications

Some employees may have more than one craft classification assigned to their profile.

When multiple classifications are available:

  • Review the available classifications carefully.
  • Select the classification that matches the work being performed for that shift.
  • Complete the sign-in process.

Only one craft classification can be selected for each sign-in session.

If the correct classification is not available, contact a Site Manager or Payroll Administrator before signing in.

Changing Classifications During the Day

If an employee begins performing a different type of work during the same shift, the classification should be updated by creating a new sign-in session. To change classifications:

  1. Complete the Sign Out process for the current classification.
  2. Start a new Sign In session.
  3. Select the new craft classification.
  4. Complete the sign-in process.

Each classification is recorded as a separate sign-in entry and may be reviewed independently during payroll validation and compliance reviews.
